We’re looking forward to MSACL 2026, October 4 – 9 and joining a community focused on advancing the use of analytical tools and data analytics in the clinical laboratory. This year the Indigo team will be teaching pre-conference Data Science courses, presenting as an invited speaker on AI, and leading an industry workshop on building the governed analytical operations capabilities required to meet the demands of today’s clinical laboratories.

From Instrument Data to Analytical Operations 

A Framework for Governed, Scalable Testing Built Around The Result 

As clinical mass spectrometry continues to advance, laboratories are being tasked to develop more sophisticated assays, expand multi-analyte panels, and operationalize increasingly complex science across instruments, laboratorians, and sites. At the same time, laboratories are managing growing volumes of analytical data, rapidly advancing capabilities in and expectations for automation and computation, and evolving regulatory demands. This workshop examines the capabilities now required to meet these demands and the building of more connected and governed analytical operations.

Using real-world examples, learning, and results from LC/GC-MS/MS laboratory-developed testing on more than 300 million samples, Indigo EVP and Chief Product Officer, Jim Edwards, will explore the practices and expanded capabilities enabled by Analytical Operations Software™ (AOS), highlighting ASCENT® and its application in complex testing environments. Beginning with trusted review-by-exception, Jim will follow a result from instrument data and analytical evidence through laboratory defined-rules, expert review, intervention, collaboration and shared learning, and ultimately release. The session will then follow the analytical record beyond release, examining how connected evidence, decisions, actions, and data across results, reviewers, instruments and sites can support continuous QC and assay oversight, tracking, longitudinal analysis, and ongoing improvement.  

Session Agenda:

•  Follow a result end-to-end through a representative large panel, complex LC/GC-MS/MS workflow – from instrument data and analytical evidence through review, decisions, actions, collaboration and release.

•  Explore how expertise gets encoded, scaled and continuously improved through laboratory-defined analytical logic, rules-based review, exception handling, expert intervention, and shared learning all captured and connected to the result.

•  Follow the analytical record beyond release as evidence, decisions, actions, and collaboration remain connected to the result and become available for QC reporting, assay oversight and change tracking, and longitudinal analysis across batches, instruments and time.

Connect analytical maturity to laboratory performance by examining how increasingly governed and connected analytical operations support assay and operational optimization, yielding substantive improvement in review time, throughput, samples per reviewer, and overall laboratory capacity.

Laboratory directors, mass spectrometry and laboratory informatics leaders, and others responsible for the building and scaling of complex LC/GC-MS/MS operations, particularly those introducing new complex, including large panel, laboratory developed tests (LDTs), those interested in introducing or building upon rules-based review capabilities, and those with multi-instrument and multi-site testing environments.
