Indigo BioAutomation at MSACL 2025 in Montréal
Indigo BioAutomation is looking forward to once again joining the global community of scientists, laboratorians, and innovators sharing breakthroughs, fostering collaboration, and working to shape the future of clinical mass spectrometry. Our founder, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer Randall Julian Jr., PhD is teaching a pre-show data science course, our EVP and CPO, Jim Edwards, in collaboration with Nick Lyktey, Chief of Laboratory Options for Gravity Diagnostics, is offering a workshop sharing Gravity's experiences, key learnings and results in their deployment of ASCENT, and we’ll have the extended Indigo team in the booth ready to talk ASCENT, data warehouse, and what’s next.
Indigo Workshop – Real World Lessons In Advancing Analytical Operations
Workshop Title: Advancing Quality, Consistency, and Throughput in GC/LC-MS/MS LDTs: A Laboratory Case Study with Gravity Diagnostics
- Where: Montreal 5
- When: Wednesday, September 24, 7:30am
- Time: 7:30a
- Presenters: Jim Edwards, EVP & Chief Product Officer, IndigoBioAutomation
Nick Lyktey, Chief of Laboratory Operations, Gravity Diagnostics
As a critical participant in the delivery of better patient health and outcomes, clinical laboratories are under increasing pressure to improve quality, consistency, throughput, and regulatory readiness. For labs performing moderate- to high-complexity testing using GC/LC-MS/MS, the challenge also includes the continual awareness and advancement of assay performance as well as, for many, an increasing menu of test offerings. These tests, and the release of high-quality chromatography and mass spectrometry results at a high operational tempo with high confidence requires the active coordination of several agents and systems in the laboratory.
In this workshop, Jim Edwards, EVP and CPO for Indigo BioAutomation, and Nick Lyktey, Chief of Laboratory Operations for Gravity Diagnostics, will share best practices, key learnings and results achieved, including a 10x expansion in sample volume and up to 75% reduction in review and release time, in the deploying of ASCENT as a primary analytical operations system for Gravity’s large panel toxicology panel workflow. Viewed as an important lever to support Gravity’s substantial growth while delivering on quality, customer service and turnaround priorities, the session will describe the onboarding, training, and change management activities deployed to integrate ASCENT into their work practices and foster organizational adoption and engagement. Jim and Nick will also cover the logistical steps, including validation, that were critical to implementation and will highlight the ASCENT features most important to Gravity’s workflow and to enabling an environment of continuous improvement with ongoing assay and workflow optimization across users and instruments.
“Everyone knows in our company, even the non-scientific team, what ASCENT has done for our lab operations.”

Jim Edwards
Chief Product Officer at Indigo BioAutomation

Nick Lyktey
Chief of Laboratory Operations at Gravity Diagnostics
Jim Edwards, EVP and Chief Product Officer at Indigo BioAutomation, began his career as an analytical chemist and laboratory supervisor, giving him firsthand insight into the challenges of high-complexity lab environments. He went on to hold leadership roles at Thermo Scientific and Bruker Daltonics, where he led strategy, product management, and platform innovation. At Indigo, Jim leads product strategy, while also working directly with customer teams across the country to guide deployment, elevate lab capabilities, and help organizations of all sizes translate complexity into scalable, defensible systems.
Nick Lyktey is Chief of Laboratory Operations at Gravity Diagnostics where he oversees all aspects of laboratory operations, R&D, and quality-driven scaling of services. Since joining as the company’s first R&D scientist, he led the expansion of Gravity’s toxicology and infectious disease testing, managing their rapid growth while maintaining rigorous standards for compliances, efficiency, and patient care. Nick holds degrees in Chemistry and Forensic Science from Penn State and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Indiana University.
